What is a rakeback in poker?

When you play online poker or live poker, you pay a rake (commission) at the tables, which is charged by the poker room or casino. The poker room shares part of this commission with affiliates, that is, with those who attracted the player to play in the poker room. The rake received from the player is spent, among other things, to motivate the player to continue playing in the poker room and generate even more rake.

There are various rakeback models. Starting with a direct return of a certain percentage of the rake for a certain period and ending with bonuses, VIP systems and races.

If a player was attracted to a poker room by an affiliate, then the poker room will pay part of the rake generated by him as a reward for attracting. Affiliates, in turn, in order to attract players, are ready to share with them part of the income received, paying an additional percentage of rakeback, or providing some services, such as software, educational content, hand histories, etc.

It is important to understand that if you register in a poker room on your own, without an affiliate, then despite the fact that the poker room will not have to share part of the generated rake, this will not affect your losses in any way. You will continue to pay the poker room the same rake for organizing the game. Some poker players still neglect the services of affiliates, and they only lose additional profits by doing that.

Rakeback as a permanent source of income

Thanks to rakeback, you can have a stable additional income in addition to your poker profits. There is a certain factor of luck in poker, you will constantly face upswings and downswings.

In the case of upswings, there is no reason to complain, because in this situation your win rate can skyrocket several times at once, which, accordingly, will entail a short-term increase in profits.

As for downswings, moments when you are frankly “underpaid”, then everything is much sadder. During prolonged downswings, a player can sit for many weeks with low or no profit at all. The quality of the game also decreases and the psychological state worsens. During such periods, rakeback becomes a good financial support for a poker player.
