Pro poker player Salman Behbehani was sentenced to six years in jail after being found guilty on charges linked to drug trafficking.

Behbehani Conviction

The Balearic Provincial Court has convicted the Kuwaiti poker player, who arrived at Ibiza airport from Las Vegas in July 2021, to six years in jail for landing in a private jet with around thirty people and a bag full of narcotics. As per Forbes magazine, Salman Behbehani comes from one of the wealthiest families on Earth.

Furthermore, Behbehani was fined 30,000 euros by the court for committing a crime against public health.

He and thirty others reportedly boarded a private plane from Las Vegas in July 2021, and their luggage had a considerable amount of narcotics, including 315 grams of cocaine, 171 grams of Tusi, 705 grams of hashish, 80 grams of MDMA, and varied amounts of marijuana, poppers, LSD, and other drugs.

In late February 2025, the Public Prosecutor's Office started its drug-smuggling trial. The well-known DJ Behbehani testified on his behalf, but the court ultimately decided that he had committed a felony that would put him in jail for an extended period.

He still can appeal his sentence before the Superior Court of Justice of the Balearic Islands' Civil and Criminal Chamber. A local television station filmed the poker pro's latest appearance before the court.

When Behbehani disembarked from the private jet, a police officer reported receiving instructions to conduct a search in the aircraft. The information they were given told them that the accused owned the plane, which surprised the cop because they didn't think someone so young would own such a big plane.

Salman Behbehani, a 37-year-old American national, was taken into custody and put in jail.

His family ranks number 19 on Forbes' list of the top 100 family-run enterprises in the Middle East.

Behbehani finished second in the 2011 Partouche Poker Tour (PPT) Main Event, earned a career-best $818,799 among his many big scores, and cashed 10 times in the World Series of Poker (WSOP). He last cashed in a live event in August of 2018, but in 2020, he made it to the final table of the WSOP Online Main Event on GG Poker.
